In essence, augmented reality enhances the viewer's perception of reality. Augmented reality is a where a live, realtime view of the real world has extra information added in a number of methods that include 3D models and 3D animation, overlaid graphics, sound or other data. A type of augmented reality is used in the latest generation fighter-pilot head mounted displays which show real-time data layered over the pilot's natural view. .

At a more advanced level, animated 3D augmented reality models can be produced and displayed in the virtual view. A good example of this is a recent project where we were commissioned to create a virtual naval vessel, helicopter and crew which were fully 3D animated and visible via an iPad. This cutting-edge 3D animated app has been used for marketing and has been shown at exhibitions.
